Goodmorning everyone! I am very happy that the "hall project" which we discussed here is finally over. It took me several hours of hard work and effort (and almost tears), but I finally did it! It was all worth it! And the winner of the inspiration photos is..... STRIPES!!! Big Horizontal Stripes! Yes baby, I looooove it! Well see it for yourself how from this....
turned into this....
Much better ha? Brighter + interesting + fun!
I prepared a tutorial for your guys on how to achieve this look.
a. First I had to remove the wallpaper of the wall, which wasn't an easy thing at all. I had to wet all the surfase with hot water and then peel it off little by little, so that no part of the wall would come off. Then remove very carefully the mirrors...
this is what was left when I was done with the wallpaper...
b. Then I prepped the walls. I washed them with water and a mild soap in order to remove any glue might be left. I then painted them (just one quick coat) with the same existing colour. Then I marked the spots where the tape should be placed with the help of a ruler and a pencil. At this point you should know how wide your stripes want them to be. I made mine at 18cm. each and it gave me at total seven stripes. This is where you ought to be extremely careful so that your stripes will be absolutely straight and of equal height. I also marked with an "X" the areas to be painted, in order to avoid any mistakes on the way...
And there you have it!
Isn't it georgious?
This is what you see as you walk into my house from the front door.
Hmmm. something's missing though...
maybe adding a mirror... aaaah much better now!
(I should do something with this wing chair though. I don't like it the way it is now.
Maybe put a leather on it... maybe next project?)
Not an easy project I'm telling you, but I really really enjoy it now!
xoxo
Olga

ReplyDelete@Space 46 Thanks for stopping by. The paint is from leftovers I had from previous paint jobs around the house. I mixed them alltogether and came out with this. What I could tell is that I only use Benjamin Moore paints.

ReplyDeleteLove the stripes. I'm kind of desperate to do stripes, but I'm nervous I'll mess it up and it'll be hard to measure the lines and it'll be all funny.
ReplyDeleteIt's beautiful! Well worth the hard work and patience. I would love for you to show off your stripes at my Show & Tell party which kicks off every Wednesday. You can find the party at mrshinesclass.wordpress.com

ReplyDeleteThose stripes look amazing! That is the exact combo I want to do. I already have the tan on the wall but I want to jazz it up. I had to remove wallpaper from shelves in a few closets when I moved in my house and it was a headache!!!

Olga, I LOVE the stripes! You did a great job! Thank you for posting at my place! I just finished peeling off wallpaper too and it's exhausting! I can't believe you did it all by hand! I wimped out and got a steamer. :)
ReplyDeleteAnyway, come back to my place again tomorrow if you can to link up another project or two.

Okay, now I'm really jealous!! I tried to do this to my entryway and it was a BIG fail! First, I took down the wallpaper and retextured. But, I didn't let the texture dry 24 hours- only about 4. Ooops! So, I taped the stripes (took hours!!) and painted. And, when I removed the tape, it removed huge chunks of texture. What a mess! I cried a little and then sanded the walls, re-textured the bad spots and repainted. Never did re-attempt the stripes, though. Now that I see yours, I'm so sad I didn't try again!!!!
ReplyDeleteAnyway, kudos to you! All the effort paid off. The walls are beautiful!
I love it! It looks so chic! I have a party on Fridays and I would love if you linked up!
