Wow! As I sit here in southeast Wisconsin tonight at my desk, which is in a corner across the room from my fireplace -- it's going right now (it's gas fired, not a "real" wood burning fireplace, but convenient, cost-efficient and provides instant heat when needed). I'm checking out my favorite blogs tonight and the temperature is plunging from a near-record high of 60 degees F yesterday to sub-zero F windchills tonight (with an inch of icy, crusted snow that fell during the day, too. I can TOTALLY relate to your two rooms. It's hard to choose a favorite, because both of the rooms you featured have elements I really admire/love/want! Of course, I'm not crazy about using actual animal pelts for rugs or blankets, but faux is fine! In the end, I choose the room with the stone fireplace and the big wood beams as my favorite, only because I do not care for the look of bare (without curtain) windows. To me, they are ugly dark holes at night (like the eye-sockets of a skull) and if you have any kind of light on in your house (even candlelight), anyone passing by -- or deliberately spying -- can get a good view to inside. NOT a comfortable feeling for me! Maybe I've just watched too many "horror" movies...

But you see where I live most of us reside in apartments in big high buildings where privacy is not an issue, though we have to sacrifice the natural landscape which is something that I'm craving about! And I will always, until I get to own a house with huge windows like that first one and then I promise you I will use some kind of shades! :)

DeleteI would have chosen the fireplace in the first picture. Right now I sit at my own fireplace, freezing after returning from Gran Canaria. Here in Norway we have a lot of snow and I am longing for springtime now.. BTW, I have blogged about the Swedish home with the fireplace on the first picture here on my blog today! Have a wonderful day :-)

ReplyDeleteThe first one, definitely! Although, both living rooms are stylish and cozy. It would be nice to have a fireplace,any fireplace, there's nothing like the smell of fire or look of the flame for cold winter days.
