Hello! I am Annastella (aka Decofairy) and I am happy being here, guest of Olga.
I can tell that lovers of vintage style divided into two categories of people: those who admire the charm of old unknown (especially the younger generation) and those who reminisce and glorify the quality and the design of artifacts of a begon era. On the other side, the simplify of design and the minimal side of decoration, creating the need of a little "spice" in the decoration. For some people, the classic heavy furniture are difficult to be accepted but the mix of retro with modern design, gives the "flavor" and the character in our space.

Thanks for Making This Possible! Spread The Word!
I thought to talk you about "Vintage" today. I have already talk about it at my blog, Decofairy, but it's an opportunity for my foreign visitors and Olga's readers too, to read about it in English.
Ι am sure that you have noticed that anything old, become fashion. Old items, mixed with modern design and take out the result of "new vintage". From knitted of grandmother to the vinyl records of our school years (oh, yes.I am almost 40!) and the juckbox to the flippers. Everything is in fashion!
I can tell that lovers of vintage style divided into two categories of people: those who admire the charm of old unknown (especially the younger generation) and those who reminisce and glorify the quality and the design of artifacts of a begon era. The vintage style, has absolutely entered also in fashion, make up, even in music. The grandma's gloves, the bright red lipstick, the absolute straight line with the eyeliner, the jazz and swing sounds mixed with modern music. all this thinks give themselves the stigma of the past, well filtered in modern fashion.
At home, '50s pastel colors, floral wallpapers, period pieces such as typewriters, cameras and pick-ups, giving the retro feeling with doses from romanticism. All around the Europe you can find small treasures at the flea markets as these in Waterloo, Torino, Montmartre, Portobello, Monastiraki for Athens and Bit Pazar for Thessaloniki and many more. (I think I must prepare a post about flea and antique markets, right?)
Apart the bazaars, internet helps a lot to find collectable, vintage objects in low prices too. Some of the objects we choose, take their position in the house as they are, while others accept a transformation from ourselves and get an interesting look such as personality..and we feel like small artists, aren't we?
A watering can become a vase for our table, an old trunk uses as a table for the living room, covers from old magazines decorate our walls, the rustic kitchen chair painted in pastels, the old radio from our mother's childhood decorate the corner where the hi-fi is and the picture is almost ready. We have only to cover the walls with the great floral or pop graphics wallpaper we bought and our apartment became to a totally vintage and chic space, where we are ready to drink tea in our porcelain retro set.
Ofcourse, I can imagine that there are a lot of people who have not the time and the desire to search for old things, they have not the feeling or the confidence to try it, but they still would like this style at their home. For them, there are a lot of furniture and decorative items in the market, that emulate the style of past years, while decorators can help them to realize their likes avoiding the pitfalls to a kitsch result, which -believe me!- is easy enough when we try to mix many different eras, colors and materials.
From now on, therefore, do not throw anything ... and if you are not fans of VINTAGE, your friend might be. And if you don't know anyone being a vintage style lover, simply let the objects next to a bucket, because they certainly will make someone happy ... or even sell them. Going through difficult times!
My vintage kisses,
Decofairy.
P.S. all the photos, except the "maquillage" one, are images from my home.

You are NOT almost 40! You look so much younger!
ReplyDeleteI love vintage items, but I think it's less for the trend of "new vintage" and more for the stories they have :) Great pictures!
