Girl's Bedroom Reveal! (and how to paint polka dots on a wall)

I finally got around to taking some pictures of my daughter's and son's bedrooms that recently got a mini makeover. Let's start with my daughter's room, shall we? I gave you a hint back in August here and
some of you got an idea. But... first thing first. Let me show you the photo that has been my
inspiration for its specific wall for quite a long time now (by Emily Clark):
Above circles are wall decals and I wish I had known that before, because in fact I didn't
and I only found out later on... after I had PAINTED each one out of 100 circles!
Anyways, I'm happy that I did and I'm proud to finally reveal my little girl's bedroom!
So this is our own painted version of polka dots:
(find out after the jump)

Yes, I painted polka dots! It's the first time that I've tried something like that and I'm telling you it wasn't
either an easy or a quick project. But I'm so excited about what I've accomplished here! When you first walk into the room, it seems like it's a wallpaper that's covering the whole wall.
And now the "Ηow Τo". First I gave the whole room three hands of yellow paint. Ok that
was not a problem. Then I had to figure out how I would create a polka dot stencil. I tried several
ideas such as, adhesive contact paper, or hand painting the circles directly on the wall, but none of
those methods seemed to create the perfect circle. So I followed the method that I saw
in one of my fellow bloggers' Lamprouka and that is cutting out a piece of cardboard and painting
in the circles. I used a pan lid for the size of the circles and several pieces of cardboard (you cant use the same stencil over and over again as they're getting wet by the paint and they get to wrinkle).
This means a lot of cutting out... in fact 100 of them!. In case you're mad enough willing to attempt this yourself, these are the steps in photos:

During the process you'll need a meter or a ruler by your side at all times to measure the distance between the dots, as they have to be symmetrical for this specific look. And this is what you'll get:
When you think that you're done (oh no! don't let it fool you, you're not done yet, at least I wasn't!) have a closer look at each dot. Hmmm... some of the them are not perfectly round (dang!)

Here is where we need to use the round pieces of the cardboard that we cut out earlier, for this
reason don't throw them away.
Put the round cardboard on each circle and using a small brush paint around it with the basic color of your wall, like this:
Just for the record and in case you STILL want to do this, I have to tell you that the "polka dot"
project took me ten whole hours, while there was a heat wave here in Greece and the temperature
had reached 42°C, i.e.107°F! (during the process I lost 2kgs, and this is a fact!)
Check out some more details added to the room:
(Well at least this is a wall decal, I didn't paint it!!!)
My little princess.
And at last a before and after shot of the room:

*I'm partying here, here and here and here. Check them out for a ton of crafts and projects! *

  35. I love big polka dots! Painting may have been a pain but it looks fabulous. Do you recall where you got your daughter's bed? We've been looking for something like that for awhile. I want it to be lofted a bit but not too high off the ground. My daughter could use some extra room but our ceilings aren't high enough for a true loft or bunk beds.
